When economies are called for but the creative amongst us still want to get that decorative 'fix', turn to Plasti-kote spray paint

These days you think twice before giving your sitting room a completely new look. With a few cans of Plasti-kote spray paint you can achieve a complete make-over on a tight budget and still get the satisfaction of a refreshed look to the room you chill out in.

Recycle furniture and accessories you already have and look out for bargains in junk and charity shops or at auctions. To get the look we:

- Sprayed a bland wicker chair with Plasti-kote Dark Plum and covered plain cushions with some statement fabric.
- The lamps were a find at a local market - £15 for two. These we sprayed with Plasti-kote Flat Metallic in Graphite. Topped off with a faux suede lamp shade and you get a designer look for a fraction of the price.
- The Buddha head was bought in the Paperchase sale and started life in orange. Sprayed with Plasti-kote Flat Metallic Brushed Nickel the head has been transformed from garish to graceful.
- The heavy ornate frame was found in a junk shop and any flaws are hidden by using the Flat Metallic Graphite again. Backed with a sample of lush fabric and you have a chunky picture for less than a fiver.
- As for the occasional tables - the coffee table was from Ikea but had seen better days. A quick spray with Plasti-kote Cappuccino from the Super range of spray paints gave it a new lease of life. The lamp table was an auction find and part of a lot picked up for £8 and we are still left with several other pieces of junk to spray another day.
- You can pick up cheap vases these days in any number of shops but they don't always fit your décor. We used some Plasti-kote Satin Black (such a useful can to have around) and hey presto they work.
- For a quick and easy bit of art, we bought 4 deep square canvasses for £3.50 each and just used left over Plasti-kote spray paint to create artwork that complements the room.
